Hamilton is hard on paint from three directions.
Airborne fallout off the industrial bayfront settles on anything parked in the north end, and it does not rinse away the way ordinary dust does. The escarpment access roads carry sand and grit down onto the lower city every winter. And the QEW and the Skyway are salted and wind-blown off the lake at the same time.
That combination is why a Hamilton car can look older than its odometer suggests. ICON Rocklear is 63 microns of permanent coating bonded to the factory paint, giving fallout and road film a hard, closed surface to sit on rather than bare clear coat. East along the QEW, Welland covers the Niagara end of the peninsula.
- 63 microns of permanent coating over the factory paint
- Verified across 12 independent ASTM tests, salt spray and UV among them
- Corrected or re-coated on the panel, often on site
- 7 years on marine gelcoat for boats off the harbour
Bayfront air. Skyway salt.

ICON Rocklear figures are from independent ASTM testing. Other columns are typical industry ranges.
Hamilton, road by road.
Industrial fallout in the north end
Anyone who parks near the bay knows the film that settles overnight and will not come off with a rinse. It is the most common paint complaint in this city, and it is why a lot of Hamilton cars get machine polished far more often than they should be.
ICON Rocklear gives that film a hard, closed surface to sit on instead of bare clear coat. It is a permanent coating, not a thin sacrificial layer, so it does not get polished away along with the contamination.
The Mountain access roads
The Jolley Cut, the Claremont and the Sydenham climb are sanded heavily and drain badly, so anything using them in winter collects grit and brine on every panel. The Linc and the Red Hill then add highway speed to it.
A serious scratch picked up on roads like those can be corrected or re-coated on the panel, and our technicians can often do it on site rather than taking the car back to bare paint.
Boats off the harbour
Hamilton Harbour and the Fifty Point end of Stoney Creek put plenty of hulls on the water and plenty of trailers on the QEW.
ICON Rocklear is warranted 7 years on marine gelcoat as well as 15 years on automotive paint, so a boat and a tow vehicle can be handled by one shop to one standard.
Getting to the bay from around Hamilton
The Hamilton installer serves Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown, Binbrook and the lower city, with Grimsby and Burlington a short run on the QEW.
Drivers on the Halton side of the escarpment often find Milton or Oakville quicker to reach. Heading the other way, west along the 403 past Ancaster, Brantford covers Brant County.
