Dufferin roads are loose for most of the year.

Very little driving around Orangeville happens on smooth asphalt. The concession roads through Mono, Amaranth and East Garafraxa are gravel or tar-and-stone, and summer resurfacing puts loose material back on them every year. Winter is the snowbelt version: repeated sand-and-salt runs on Highway 10, Highway 9 and Airport Road, and sand is abrasive in a way that city salt is not.

A good share of what comes through the bay here is a working vehicle. Pickups, farm equipment, horse and utility trailers, and the daily Highway 10 run down to Brampton. ICON Rocklear bonds to the factory paint in one application and takes that wear in place of the clear coat, with a 15-year automotive warranty behind it.

  • 63 microns of protection in a single application
  • Sand, road film and summer tar sit on the coating, not the clear coat
  • 4,000 hours of UV and condensation exposure with no change in appearance
  • Cars, trucks, SUVs, trailers and RVs

ICON Rocklear figures are from independent ASTM testing. Other columns are typical industry ranges.

Orangeville, road by road.

Gravel and tar-and-stone concessions

County roads resurfaced with tar and stone throw loose material for weeks afterwards, and gravel concessions throw it all year. That is a scouring problem down the lower panels and behind the wheels.

ICON Rocklear puts 63 microns of hard, closed surface over the factory paint so the abrasion is taken by the coating. Where a panel does pick up a serious scratch, it can be corrected or re-coated in place instead of the car being stripped back.

Snowbelt sand and salt

Dufferin takes more snow than most of the Golden Horseshoe, and the crews use a sand-and-salt mix, which puts an abrasive as well as a corrosive on the road for five months of the year.

Salt exposure is one of the twelve independent ASTM methods used to verify this coating, and it bonds permanently rather than being a layer that wears off and has to be replaced.

Work trucks, trailers and RVs

Farm and trade vehicles here earn their living, and a trailer or an RV that lives outside all year takes sun as well as road wear.

ICON Rocklear was tested to ASTM D4587 with no change in appearance after 4,000 hours of UV and condensation. It is the same single application on a pickup, a stock trailer or a motorhome, and there is no yearly re-coat to buy on any of them.
