Markham puts highway miles and city miles on the same car.
The 404 and the 407 carry most of Markham to work, and highway winter driving means constant brine spray rather than the occasional salted road. The other half of the mileage is stop-start along Highway 7, Woodbine and Kennedy, which is where the road film and the grit come from. Both ends of that are hard on a factory clear coat.
Markham also runs one of the most active enthusiast scenes in the region, alongside a high share of leased and near-new vehicles that need to come back looking right. ICON Rocklear goes on in a single application, bonds to the paint, and can be corrected on the panel rather than removed and redone.
- 63 microns built in one pass, bonded to the factory clear coat
- ASTM D2794 impact testing: 120 in/lbs
- Goes over swirls, scuffs and faded paint rather than cutting them out
- Wrap, paint protection film and decals go on over the top
Highway 404. Every winter.

ICON Rocklear figures are from independent ASTM testing. Other columns are typical industry ranges.
Markham, road by road.
Brine on the 404 and the 407
A highway commute means salt arrives as spray off the vehicle ahead rather than as something you drive over, so it reaches the flanks, the mirrors and the whole rear of the car. It also gets pushed into panel gaps and stays wet there.
ICON Rocklear is a permanent coating rather than a sacrificial layer, so a hard winter does not use it up, and there is no annual re-coat to buy to keep it working.
Underground parking and stop-start traffic
A lot of Markham cars spend the night in a heated underground garage, which is where winter brine does its slowest work: warm, damp and undisturbed for eight hours at a stretch.
The daytime half is stop-start traffic along Highway 7 and Kennedy, where road film builds. A hard, closed 63-micron surface gives both of those something to sit on other than bare clear coat.
Enthusiast cars and lease returns
This part of York Region runs an unusually active import and enthusiast scene, and an unusually high number of leased vehicles. Both care about the same thing: the paint still has to look right in three years.
ICON Rocklear goes over swirls, scuffs and faded paint instead of cutting them out, and it takes vinyl wrap, paint protection film and decals on top if the car is going to be styled.
