Welland sits between two lakes and gets the worst of both. Lake Erie throws snow squalls across the south of the region for much of the winter, which means heavy, repeated salting on the 406, Highway 20 and the regional roads. In the warmer months the lake air keeps everything damp, and the farm roads through Wainfleet and Pelham add dust, sand and summer tar.
The canal makes this a boating region as much as a driving one, and ICON Rocklear covers both: 15 years on painted exterior surfaces, 7 years on marine gelcoat, fresh water or salt. It was tested to ASTM B117 salt spray for 1,000 hours with no visible change before it was sold anywhere.

Welland, road by road.
Squall season on the 406 and Highway 20
Snow off Lake Erie arrives in bands rather than in one storm, so the trucks are out repeatedly and the road stays wet with brine in between. That is the hardest version of a salt problem: constant, renewed and never dry.
ICON Rocklear was tested to ASTM B117 salt spray for 1,000 hours with no visible change, and it bonds permanently to the paint instead of wearing away as a sacrificial layer.
Boats on the canal and off Port Colborne
Between the recreational canal, the Sugarloaf shore and the Lake Erie waterfront, there are a lot of hulls in this part of Niagara and a lot of trailers on the road either side of the season.
ICON Rocklear carries a 7-year warranty on marine gelcoat and 15 years on automotive paint, so the boat, the trailer and the truck can all be done at one shop. Fresh water or salt makes no difference to it.
Country roads through Wainfleet and Pelham
South and west of town the roads are agricultural: loose shoulders, sand tracked off the fields and tar-and-stone resurfacing every summer.
Road film and tar lift off a hard, closed 63-micron surface far more easily than they lift off bare clear coat, and a panel that does take a serious scratch can be corrected or re-coated in place.
Getting to the bay from around south Niagara
Welland sits in the middle of the region, so the 406 puts most of south Niagara within half an hour of the bay: Fonthill, Port Robinson, Dain City and the canal villages either side of town.
North of here the region has its own certified shop. St Catharines, Niagara Falls, Thorold, Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie are all covered by Niagara. Heading north-west up the QEW instead, Hamilton is the next certified bay in the network.
